Where to stay?

There are plenty of hotels in New Orleans close to the National WWII museum. If you don’t want to stay in the city centre, we can recommend a hotel on St. Charles Street between “Washington” and “Martin Luther King Drive”. The best value for money is a charming guest house called “Creole Gardens” (415 Prytania St, New Orleans, LA 70130, telephone: ++1-504-569-8700, website: http://creolegardens.com, rooms are available from $ 89 including breakfast).

How to get about?

From the hotels/guest house you can easily walk to the city centre and the museum. From Creole Gardens it is a less-than-ten-minute walk. The most authentic way to get to the city centre is by the iconic street car on St. Charles. For this you need the exact fare as no change is given ($3 for a day pass, $1.25 for a single ticket). Get off at Lee Circle for the museum.

Where to go for drinks?

If you do not want to get in the midst of buzzing night life in New Orleans, you may stay for some local bar food and craft beers on St. Charles. We can recommend “Samuel’s Blind Pelican” and “The Avenue Pub”.

Movie nerds arriving early?

The “Prytania Theatre” (5339 Prytania Street, New Orleans, 70115) is a gem. On Sundays and Wednesdays it will show classics at 10 a.m. (“A Nostalgic Kind of Theatre Experience”) – everything from 1960s James Bond to Alfred Hitchcock and Ida Lupino!
